HERS raters are special building inspectors certified by the California Energy Commission (CEC) to rate homes in California according to the Home Energy Rating System (HERS). These ratings include field verification and diagnostic testing to determine energy efficiency levels among homes tested for duct efficiency, duct leakage, envelope leakage, refrigerant charge verification and building insulation for compliance with current building efficiency standards. Airflow & Fan Efficacy are two key components of a forced air system that historically have been ignored by many HCAV installers. The result being that many existing homes have improperly sized ducts and equipment. This can cause considerably higher heating and cooling bills than a properly sized system and ductwork.
